This Privacy Policy ("Policy") applies to Mernin Bot, a Slack app developed and operated by Mernin Labs LLC ("Company," "we," "our," or "us"). This Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you use Mernin Bot or visit merninbot.com.

Mernin Bot allows Slack users and teams to generate and share daily "Good Morning" messages and accompanying illustrations within their Slack workspaces. The website provides information about the app's features, installation instructions, and related support resources.

By installing or using Mernin Bot, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA and CPRA:

• Right to Know: You may request details about what personal data we collect, use, and share.
• Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal data, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to Correct: You may request corrections to inaccurate personal information.
• Right to Opt-Out: You may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data (we currently do not sell any personal data).
• Right to Restrict Sensitive Data Use: You may limit the use of sensitive personal information.
• Right Against Retaliation: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Information We Collect

To operate and deliver the Mernin Bot service, we may collect the following information:

• Name and Display Name
• Email Address (if provided by Slack's API)
• Slack Metadata: Slack user ID, workspace ID, display name, and channel identifiers as provided by Slack's API

We do not collect message history or read Slack conversations.
We do not request or store payment information.

We may collect non-personal, aggregated usage data (such as event counts, timestamps, or theme preferences) to improve app performance and reliability.

How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

• Operate and deliver the services you have requested
• Provide support and respond to inquiries
• Improve and personalize your experience
• Notify you about important updates or changes
• Monitor app performance and security
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.

Third-Party Services

Mernin Bot relies on the following trusted third-party services:

• Slack Technologies, LLC — for authentication, permissions, and app integration within Slack
• OpenAI, L.P. — to generate creative text and image content as part of Mernin Bot's functionality
• Cloud Hosting Providers (such as Render, AWS, or equivalent) — for secure data storage and app operation

These third parties may process limited information (e.g., Slack workspace IDs or image generation prompts) solely for the purpose of providing their respective services.

We do not share any personally identifiable information with OpenAI.

Data Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including:

• Secure HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmissions
• Slack OAuth for authentication and permission control
• Regular system updates and access monitoring
• Encrypted cloud storage managed by trusted third-party vendors

While we strive to protect your data, no internet transmission is completely secure. By using the app, you acknowledge these inherent limitations.

Data Retention

• User preferences and configuration data are retained for up to 12 months while the bot remains installed.
• Usage logs may be kept for internal analytics for the same period.
• All OAuth tokens and workspace data are automatically deleted when you uninstall Mernin Bot from Slack.

You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting hey@merninbot.com.

Disconnecting from Slack

You can disconnect Mernin Bot from your Slack workspace at any time by uninstalling it through your Slack workspace's "Manage Apps" page or by visiting https://my.slack.com/apps/manage.

Once uninstalled, Mernin Bot immediately loses access to your workspace and any related data. You may also contact us at hey@merninbot.com for additional assistance or data removal requests.

Children's Privacy

Mernin Bot is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us at hey@merninbot.com, and we will promptly delete it.

International Data Transfers

Mernin Labs LLC is based in the United States.

We may process limited personal information from users located outside the U.S. as part of Mernin Bot's operation.

Data may be transmitted or stored using secure third-party providers (such as Slack, OpenAI, or cloud hosting services) that operate globally.

We take reasonable steps to ensure any international data transfers comply with applicable laws and maintain equivalent levels of protection.

AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Mernin Bot uses OpenAI's API to generate text and illustrations.

AI-generated content may not always be accurate, original, or appropriate for every audience.

You are responsible for reviewing and using the content in accordance with your organization's policies and applicable law.

Mernin Labs does not claim ownership of AI-generated materials and assumes no liability for their accuracy or suitability.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, or legal requirements.

Significant updates will be communicated via Slack or posted on merninbot.com.

Your continued use of Mernin Bot after such updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
